Mobile tech giant Apple was awarded with another foldable phone patent yesterday. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) published a patent for a flip-phone with flexible screen that bends in the middle. The Apple design resembles a prototype from flexible display manufacturer BOE, shown recently at Display Week in San Jose.
However, Apple is not expected to release a foldable device soon. A dozen companies have announced that they’re working on a foldable phone or foldable display. Apart from a few patents that have been published, there are no signs that the tech giant from Cupertino is working on flexible electronics. Apple news site MacRumors wrote that Apple is cooperating with LG to start developing a foldable OLED display for a future iPhone, but these rumours were unconfirmed by Apple.
