LG doesn’t think foldable display technology is ready for massmarket introduction. The company has no plans to introduce a foldable device anytime soon, says LG Electronics boss Brian Kwon. Kwon is quoted by AndroidAuthority as saying: “We have reviewed releasing the foldable smartphone when launching 5G smartphone but decided not to produce it.”
Last fall, former manager of LG, Jeong Hwang confirmed that the Korean company was working on a foldable phone, but management have decided not to bring it to market now: “Since Mr. Hwang made that statement in October, management didn’t see the market as becoming very favorable for an expensive, first-generation foldable smartphone. So we’ve decided to focus our efforts in other areas, such as optional dual displays.”
Delaying their foldable phone doesn’t mean that LG is lagging behing with flexible display technology. LG is still leading in rollable displays and have recently introduced their first commercial product using this technology, the rollable tv.
