Chinese manufacturer Huawei has received a patent for the next version of its Mate X foldable smartphone. The device folds inwards, much like the Samsung Galaxy Fold, whereas the current version of the Mate X folds outward. The design patent was granted by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and discovered by Dutch website LetsGoDigital.
The device keeps the vertical sidebar and grip with integrated cameras, that can also be found on the current Mate X model. It’s not clear when Huawei wants to bring this model to market and what the hardware and software configuration will be. US chip manufacturers and operating system maker Google are not allowed to provide Huawei with components and the Android OS under the presidential ban.
