In the past week, after the introduction of the device on Mobile World Congress, Huawei has allowed journalists from several countries to go hands-on with the newly announced Mate X foldable smartphone in their home towns. Reporters from China, Mexico, The Emirates and France were allowed to get a brief look at the upcoming bendy phone. Their video reports are embedded below.
First up is YouTuber Emkwan from the United Arab Emirates. He took the elevator to the 30th floor of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, to get some hands-on time with the much anticipated foldable device. And although sceptical at first, he came out impressed.
Next up is Charly Pi of Mexican tech new site Parentesis. He’s showing how fast the Mate X actually is, when scrolling through apps on the home screen and multitasking in split view.
French blogger Jean-Baptiste Nicolet was allowed some hands-on time with the Mate X in Paris and is answering questions from his viewers. He says the screen is excellent but feels a bit plasticky when touched. Which is not surprising because flexible displays have no glass cover.
Finally, our female colleague from China is trying to touch the Mate X with her long yellow fingernails. Spoiler: the display survives.
