Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi just outsmarted Korean competitor Samsung by teasing an astonishing double folding device that morphs from a tablet into a smartphone. CEO Lin Bin of Xiaomi demoed the device in a video on the Weibo social network.
The device features an (approximately) 11 inch foldable display that curves 180 degrees inwards on both sides. The tablet turns into a smartphone, with a screen diagonal of roughly 4,5 inch, adjusting the user interface on the fly.
The company is asking feedback for what it’s calling ‘a prototype’. However, the timing is remarkable given that its competitors, such as Samsung, Huawei and Oppo have announced foldable devices to be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 25th.
It’s not the first video that appears online of Xiaomi’s prototype. Last week, prolific leaker Evan Blass, tweeted a video of what appeared to be the same device with a double folding hinge.
